The workshop

How the body tells the story.

A four-day workshop for professional actors who want to keep honing their craft and gain confidence performing on screen in English — also ideal for actors whose experience is largely in theatre. All material is in English, drawn from film and TV.

The techniques are led by body-based approaches that explore physical ease on camera and how to reach a deep inner connection to the unspoken layers of the story. We explore the nuances of how the body reveals the story on screen. The workshop is an opportunity to experiment, play and be challenged to make daring creative choices.

01

Tune the body

Each day begins with Qigong, breath work and energetic balancing. Physical training is fundamental to the technique, leading to greater receptivity, physical range and a strong connection to the inner life.

02

Focus your energy

Explore how to adapt Michael Chekhov’s technique to camera, and learn to maximise the energetic connection to yourself and others.

03

Lift it off the page

Working on film and TV scripts to bring the character off the page through the body.

04

Your scene, on tape

You work on a scene in English throughout the workshop and record it at the end as a professional self-tape.

The method

The body at the heart of the practice.

Over four days, participants learn and experience a method of training for screen that places the body at the heart of the practice. Connecting to your own body helps you recognise the habitual patterns that often hinder your ability to be fully present in the moment. Amanda uses these techniques to coach and train actors for film and television, and continues to explore ways to expand the actor’s toolbox and preparation process.

In the workshop you will

  • 01Sharpen your physical skills through body-based practice
  • 02Expand your current creative process
  • 03Work with a team of high-level professionals
  • 04Be supported to explore and take risks
  • 05Make interesting choices beyond the obvious interpretation
  • 06Hone your ability to be present
  • 07Expand your screen presence
